Fitness and exercise should first be about moving in ways we love and can connect with. Discipline alone does not help us achieve fitness motivation.
We can be overwhelmed with some aspects of our lives. Finding time becomes a challenge. At times, we can also be self-criticizing.
So how do we combat these potential obstacles and find the motivation to exercise, complete a healthy workout, and embrace lifetime fitness?
When Time is a Challenge
When overwhelmed, many of us have a tendency to lack motivation to even think about fitness or an exercise routine. So when you don’t think you can possible fit it into your busy day, consider these motivating tips:
1. Start moving with something that you are already familiar with.
The many fitness programs out there already give you routines you are familiar with. Make a choice of two that you like and stick with those. The point is to start with small goals which lead you into substantial goals.
This approach to fitness:
- Makes sense because you are familiar with it
- Allows for you to be better at it tomorrow than you are today
- Paces you, so you are not further overwhelmed
- Becomes sustainable fitness
2. Set personal performance goals.
Don’t just go through a repetitive routine three to five times a week. Set personal goals for yourself with a reward in mind when you reach each one.
- Make your routine a personal challenge
- Keep a journal
- Reward yourself when you succeed
When you compete with you and only you, then you are more likely to improve upon your personal best. In your journal record what you do during your exercise routine, the duration, and the reps. Keep notes on your fitness improvements too! Endurance is part of your success.
Your body will respond to positive reinforcement. Your body will grow in strength and endurance. It will lose inches and weight where it needs to lose. Celebrate what your body responds to, in whatever form of exercise you choose to do.
When We Become Our Own Critical Thinker
In our busy world it seems viral critical thoughts can pollute and challenge our self-thinking. When everything is not okay, we become our own critical thinker. It robs us of our energy. It convinces us to not waste our time in fitness or an exercise routine.
